The Golden-i device, similar to the Glass project being developed by Google, offers the ability to see through walls thanks to infrared technology.
It is operated by voice commands and head movements and allows the wearer to access vital information without using their hands.

Golden-i has been developed by U.S. company Kopin Corporation, but software solutions tailored to police, firefighters and paramedics have been created by Nottinghamshire-based firm Ikanos Consulting.
It was shown off at the CES 2013 show in Las Vegas last month, although the firm says it is ‘too early’ to give a price.
It is set to be trialled this year, and could go on sale before Google’s Glass project, which is a far more compact headset the search giant also plans to release this year.
The Police Pro application provides real-time situational awareness in the field by allowing officers to record incidents for later analysis and view live video feeds from other Golden-i headsets.
The system can also identify suspects using facial recognition, receive alerts from motion sensors, scan licence plates instantly, monitor basic vital signs and call up floor plans and GPS coordinates.
The Firefighter Pro application allows firefighters to call up floor plans and GPS coordinates, see through walls using infrared technology, monitor crew and surroundings, navigate through unknown environments and provide on-site video streaming.
The Paramedic Pro application allows first responders and paramedics to share multiple video and data feeds over a private network, enabling critical information to be shared instantly across multiple devices, improving decision making and safety.Â

In Switzerland a firm of architects is using drones to help develop an entirely new type of architectural structure that could develop into the skyscrapers of the future.
The âFlight Assembled Architectureâ project has been developed by architects Gramazio & Kohler in collaboration with Raffaello DâAndrea, Professor of Dynamic Systems and Control at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

Their concept includes developing small robotic âquadrocoptersâ to build complex cylindrical towers which they believe could stand more than 600 meters tall and house 30,000 inhabitants.
The drones would operate semi-autonomously and be capable of communicating with one another and independently sensing the height of the tower to place their block accordingly, reports Smithsonian.com.Â
As these images by François Lauginie show the model drones and towers offer a potentially innovative solution for creating high-rise buildings in urban areas where construction can be incredibly difficult and costly.

Under a new post that he titled  âMexico, Carlos Slim, and Me,â Gates tells his readers that he is excited about his visit to Mexico this week for a series of events with Carlos Slim,  âwhom Iâve enjoyed getting to know for his business insights â but also because of some of the innovative approaches heâs taking to philanthropy.â
Gates was invited by Mexicoâs non-profit International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Â to open new CIMMYT facilities at its headquarters near Mexico City. The facilities were funded by the Slim Foundation.
In a  joint statement released his week by the  Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Carlos Slim Foundation,  Gates and Slim said they planned to use their foundations to promote research and the development of agricultural technology to increase farmersâ productivity and reduce hunger among the worldâs poor people.
âThe new infrastructure donated by the Carlos Slim Foundation will allow CIMMYT to apply its latest agriculture findings through the use of the most recent digital innovations,â the billionaires said in their statement. âThe Bill and Melinda GatesFoundation will assure that these practices, and the necessary resources to increase productivity, reach farmers in Africa and Southeast Asia.â
âWith a staff of 1,100 in Mexico and 13 regional offices around the world, CIMMYT is helping reduce hunger and raise living standards in many poor countries through programs focused on increasing maize and wheat productivity. Our foundation has invested in CIMMYT, and Carlos Slim has been a big supporter.â
The new CIMMYT facilities include a  gene bank that holds the genetic diversity of 130,000 wheat and 28,000 maize varieties worldwide.
Gates said that part of what makes his visit to Mexico âparticularly excitingâ Â is that the expansion of CIMMYT represents a very important and positive global trend: newly industrialized countries such as Mexico, China, India and Brazil are becoming leaders in efforts to help less developed countries. âMexico is in a great position to work closely with poor countries both because of its progress and because of its quite advanced technical capabilities in agricultural development. CIMMYT is a prime example of that.â
Gates also said that despite the many challenges Mexico still faces, âsince 1995, the country has been able to cut its poverty rate from about 15% to less than 2% today.â  Despite  Gatesâ wishful thinking, the fact is that the percentage  of the Mexican population living below the national poverty line in 2010 was 51.3 %, according to the World Bank.
According to its website, the Gates Foundation has an endowment of  $36.2 billion in assets.  Arturo Elias,  Slimsâs spokesperson and son-in-law, said in an e-mail message that the Slim Foundationâs assets are $5 billion, in addition to $2 billion of the Telmex Foundation.
