German Chancellor Angela Merkel, obsessed with power
A new book has likened German Chancellor Angela Merkel to a female Don Corleone – the Mafia boss in The Godfather.
The Godmother: How Angela Merkel Is Reconstructing Germany has been written by Christian Democrat, Gertrud Höhler, 71, a prominent and outspoken conservative.
The book accuses Merkel of being obsessed with power, running an autocratic regime and destroying the euro.
Publication of The Godmother has coincided with attacks on the Chancellor from other leading members of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union.
She says: ‘We have more and more state power and less and less parliamentary power.
‘Some cross-party decisions are increasingly adopting totalitarian features, and there are increasingly stricter measures against dissenting opinions in parliament.’
