What the fuck happened with our brains?!

We use to take a picture of our grandparents or our pets…today we are taking pictures from circuit boards and electrical cables like if they are living beings.

We take pictures from a box and we act if the were human models, we even put certain light on those electrical things to let them speak even more to our imagination.

What happened to us…are we already turned into a cyborg?

A young cancer survivor has wowed friends, family and now the internet with a quirky talent she recently revealed in the hopes of winning a contest on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

Ms O’Shea’s amazing and bizarre flexibility is the result of an operation following the treatment of a rare form of bone cancer.

The soldier, who has been dubbed the Russian ‘Terminator’, was reportedly caught in AK-47 crossfire between Russian and Chechen militants.

In the video, the man seems undaunted by what is happening, and remains calm as the procedure take place.

The world’s quickest and and most detailed CT scanner that allows patients to watch T.V as they are X-rayed, has been installed in a Bradford hospital.

The £600,000 scanner is said to revolutionise medical technology.

It is able to perform up to 50 scans a day, compared to the 35 of the previous machine at Bradford Royal Infirmary, West Yorkshire.

The state-of-the-art equipment houses a television, which can show relaxation videos to nervous patients or children.

The scanner, which uses X-rays to produce sliced images of areas of the body, is designed to accommodate obese patients.

The machine can hold patients who weigh up to 27 stone.

Clinical services manager Nigel Lewis, said: ‘This machine is the first of its kind in the world and in an instant can provide 160 slice images of the body in just 0.35 seconds.

‘It also uses a very low dose of radiation compared to older CT scanners.

‘I can’t understate the benefits that the new scanner brings to the hospital and our patients and I can’t overstate how good this equipment is.’

The Prime CT scanner provides radiographers and radiologists with a near-instant 160-slice image of the patient’s body in just one rotation and provides more details than ever before.

The machine’s coverage allows entire organs such as the heart to be scanned in just four heartbeats.

It also provides clinicians with sharper lung and excellent soft tissue detail in one image and image reading times have been shortened.

Consultant radiologist Jonathan Barber, said; ‘Such rapid imaging gives staff increased time to spend with patients and means scans can be acquired faster.

‘We will be able to scan more patients than ever and the wider bore of the machine accommodates almost any patient type.’

These images of a heart and set of lungs have been created by the world’s fastest scanner

Manufacturer Toshiba has designated the hospital as a world reference site – a first for the UK.

It means BRI is a centre of excellence and health professionals from all over the globe will travel to the city to see the scanner work.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates two CT scanners at the BRI and one at St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford.

Efficient: 50 patients will now be able to be scanned each day at Bradford Royal Infirmary, freeing doctors up to spend more time with patients

The prospect of cloned babies has moved a step closer after scientists extracted stem cells from human embryos created in a laboratory.

The breakthrough could lead to customised cells to help treat and even cure a range of diseases, from Alzheimer’s to multiple sclerosis.

However, it also raises the spectre of babies being cloned in laboratories. This could allow couples who lose a child to pay for the creation of a ‘duplicate’.

While human embryos have been cloned before, none have had healthy stem cells extracted from them. The latest advance means scientists are now even closer to being able to clone children.

The US team behind the work stress that they want to find treatments for incurable diseases – but critics fear there is little to stop a rogue scientist from copying their work to try to clone humans.

Dr David King, founder of the campaign group Human Genetics Alert, called for an international ban on human cloning and said it was ‘irresponsible in the extreme’ to have published details of the stem-cell technique.

The world first was achieved at Oregon Health and Science University, with a technique similar to the one used to clone Dolly the sheep.

First, Dr Shoukhrat Mitalipov took eggs donated by healthy young women and removed their DNA.

He then placed skin cells inside the hollowed-out eggs and used a zap of electricity to make them start developing into embryos.

When the embryos were five or six days old, and around the size of a pinhead, Dr Mitalipov successfully harvested them for stem cells.

These cells, known as ‘master cells’, are capable of turning into every type of cell in the body and are widely seen as a potential repair kit for diseased, damaged and worn-out body parts.

Dr Mitalipov has spent many years refining the technique, which involves feeding the eggs caffeine at a key point in the process.

He said: ‘Our finding offers new ways of generating stem cells for patients with dysfunctional or damaged tissues and organs.

‘Such stem cells can regenerate and replace those damaged cells and tissues and alleviate diseases that affect millions of people.

‘While there is much work to be done in developing safe and effective stem-cell treatments, we believe this is a significant step forward in developing the cells that could be used in regenerative medicine.’

Say hello to the Holophone: Amazon developing 3D handset with a ‘floating hologram’ screen that can be viewed without glasses

Amazon is said to be working on a phone with a glasses-free 3D screen.

According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, the device will use retina-tracking technology to make images on the smartphone’s display appear to ‘float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles.’

The company is also rumoured to be working on an ‘audio-only’ streaming device.

Following Amazon’s foray into the tablet market with the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD – being shown off here by CEO Jeff Bezo – the company is said to now be working on a smartphone with a 3D screen. According to the Wall Street Journal, it’s rumoured to use retina-tracking to show images that ‘float’ above the screen like holograms.

AMAZON TO LAUNCH SET-TOP BOX

Amazon is set to launch a TV box later this year to allow people to easily stream video to their living room set.

The service is expected to take on existing broadcasters as well as rumoured TV services from Apple and Intel.

It will use Amazon’s existing video services, called Amazon Video on demand in the US and Lovefilm in the UK.

This would be similar to an iPod or MP3 that connects straight to the cloud and lets you stream music anywhere.

It’s expected that the device will only work with music in your Amazon Cloud Drive account.

If the rumours are true, it won’t be the first 3D smartphone.

HTC released the EVO 3D in America in June 2011.

A Russian billionaire has revealed controversial plans to upload his own brain and become immortal by 2045.

32 year-old Dmitry Itskov believes technology will allow him to live forever in a hologram body.

His ’2045 initiative’ is described as the next step in evolution, and over 20,000 people have signed up on Facebook to follow its progress, with global conferences planned to explore the technology needed.

‘We are in the process of creating focus groups of experts,’ said Itskov.

‘Along with these teams, we will prepare goal statements and research programs schedules.’

The foundation has already planned out its timeline for getting to a fully holographic human, and claims it will be ready to upload a mind into a computer by 2015, a timeline even Itskov says is ‘optimistic’.

‘The four tracks and their suggested deadlines are optimistic but feasible,’ he said of the foundation’s site.

‘This is our program for the next 35 years, and we will do our best to complete it.’

The ultimate aim is for a hologram body.

‘The fourth development track seems the most futuristic one,’ said Itskov.

‘It’s intent is to create a holographic body. Indeed, its creation is going to be the most complicated task, but at the same time could be the most thrilling problem in the whole of human evolution.’

32 year-old Dmitry Itskov believes technology will allow him to live forever in a hologram body.

To help realize the lofty aim, he has set up the Global Future Congress, which held its first meeting in Moscow last year.

The congress will meet again in New York City this June, where it promises to unveil the most human-like robot the world has ever seen.

It will also addressing the ethical and social issues of immortality.

‘Modern civilization, with its space stations, nuclear submarines, iPhones and Segways cannot save mankind from the limitations in the physical abilities of our bodies, nor from diseases and death,’ the ’2045′ Strategic Social Initiative says in its manifesto.

‘We believe that it is possible and necessary to eliminate aging and even death, and to overcome the fundamental limits of the physical and mental capabilities currently set by the restrictions of the physical body.

‘Before 2045 an artificial body will be created that will not only surpass the existing body in terms of functionality, but will achieve perfection of form and be no less attractive than the human body.

‘People will make independent decisions about the extension of their lives and the possibilities for personal development in a new body after the resources of the biological body have been exhausted.’

The initiative also believes the first generation of ‘android’ bodies will have superhuman capabilities.

‘The new human being will receive a huge range of abilities and will be capable of withstanding extreme external conditions easily: high temperatures, pressure, radiation, lack of oxygen, etc.

‘Using a neural-interface humans will be able to operate several bodies of various forms and sizes remotely.’

The project is also addressing the moral issues of living forever.

‘We suggest the implementation of not just a mechanistic project to create an artificial body, but a whole system of views, values and technology which will render assistance to humankind in intellectual, moral, physical, mental and spiritual development.‘

Itskov, a 31-year-old media entrepreneur, says that he aims to transplant a human brain into a robot body within 10 years. He says his technology will be of interest at first to the ‘disabled and close to dying’

‘This project is leading down the road to immortality,’ Itskov has said previously.

‘A person with a perfect Avatar will be able to remain part of society. People don’t want to die.’

Itskov envisages surgically ‘transplanting’ a human consciousness into a robot body within 10 years.

He hopes to then ‘upload’ minds without surgery, leaving human bodies as empty husks as their owners ‘live on’ inside robots.

The project is called Avatar after the James Cameron movie, set far in the future, where human soldiers use mind control to inhabit the bodies of human alien hybrids as they carry out a war against the inhabitants of a distant world.

Plants that will light up the streets and a drone in every home?…how long before we really live the movie I Robot?!

Plant bot: The world’s first robot that can turn your household plants into light-seeking ‘triffid’ drones

‘Faunaborgs’ can carry plants around a room all day following sunlight

The world’s first robot that can carry plants around a room making sure they stay in sunlight all day has been developed by a team of researchers from Rutgers University.

The IndaPlant, which has been dubbed ‘faunaborg’, can also alert the plant’s owner when the plant becomes dehydrated and tell the owner to water it.

Artists and engineers from the New Jersey university are currently halfway through the two-year IndaPlant Project, set up to create various robotic devices that can seek out light and water.

IndaPlant driving around the corridors of Rutgers University in New Jersey. When the IndaPlant is placed in the shadows it will seek out and move towards the light using solar sensors. These sensors can also be used to charge the device using solar panels

The IndaPlant runs on batteries that can be charged using solar-power, or from a power source such as a laptop. When it’s plugged in, the sensors determine where the nearest light source is and the blue wheels begin turning to move the ‘faunaborg’ in that direction

Plants are fixed to the top of the ‘faunaborg’, which the team of scientists call a ‘three-wheeled, autonomous robot platform’.

Using light sensors, the IndaPlant independently moves around the room following the sunlight.

It does this by using basic motion planning, which means it can avoid obstacles as it moves around.

The IndaPlant is also connected to moisture sensors that can tell when the level of moisture in a plant drops below a certain level.

The IndaPlant was designed by Rutgers University to stop plants wilting and dying, as seen pictured left, from either not enough sunlight, or not enough water. Sensors on the IndaPlant can alert owners if their plant is thirsty, and get them to water it to make it healthier, as seen pictured right

An alarm then sounds to tell the plant’s owner it needs watering.

As well as seeking out light, the IndaPlant use solar power to charge its motors.

The team is lead by Professor Elizabeth Demaray, from Rutgers Camden’s Department of Fine Art, and Dr. Qingze Zou from Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the New Brunswick campus.

Demaray said: ‘My primary interest in creating this piece lies in the poetic implications of turning an immobile houseplant–which is completely dependent upon human care–into a free agent which could become a potentially cooperative or competitive entity.
